The Divine Ganesha

Rs.12,000 Inc. Tax

This is a portrait of Lord Ganesha, the Hindu God of the wealth and prosperity, according to the Hindu mythology. There are some elements that are traditional and common in this particular Ganesha. It includes the four hands and the objects clasped in each of these four hands. Among these is the lotus flower that is traditionally seen. He also has a tilak on his forehead, a mark of the auspicious and the divine. However, the other elements in his hand including the conch are elements that are completely new. He also stands, abandoning his usual sitting position. With one hand he rings a prayer bell while at the same time he pours water. Both of these actions are considered to be related to the prayer of the divinity and are considered to be extremely auspicious. It is almost as if the deity himself is engaging in actions of prayer. Thus, in this painting the deity and the divine have been stripped of the grandeur of divinity. The focus has been shifted from the divine inspiration in the poets to his imagination. This is a very important trait of the ideology that was propounded by the Romantic poets of Europe.
