The Dancing Divinity

Rs.7,800 Rs.7,000 Inc. Tax

The Hindu mythology has a great history of serving and worshipping elements of the feminine principle, raising them to a pedestal almost equal to the cult of the Virgin Mary during the middle ages in Europe. Even today, the Goddess Durga is one of the most popular goddesses of the religion. She is worshipped all over the country in various different traditions and cultures, in many different ways as a mother figure. Her divine consort is the Lord Shiva. The Lord Shiva is also seen in a number of different forms throughout the country. He is associated with the holy trinity along with Vishnu and Indra, two other key figures of Hindu mythology. Among his many forms is that of Nataraja, who is well known for the ferocious dance. It is commonly believed that his anger lead him to begin a dance that ultimately caused a major devastation all over the earth and its inhabitants. In this picture, Goddess Durga has been depicted with her divine consort, Shiva in the form of Nataraja. In the background the viewer can see the mother figure of Durga while the form of the divine consort, Parvati stands poised with her husband in front.
