Of Eternal Peace

Rs.12,000 Inc. Tax

The Cambodian Buddha as well as the Tibetan Buddha is distinguishable from its Indian counterpart by a number of important features. Of these one of the elements of prime importance are the long ears of the Buddha. This is the very first mark of identification that is generally used and can be used for this particular portrait as well. The Buddha in this portrait moves away from convention or tradition, for the mudra or the hand gesture is not recognizable here. One of his hands point to a white dove above him while the other stretches out towards a white lotus. Both of these may be interpreted in terms of the general message of Buddhism as symbols of peace and inner bliss. The color white is seen to dominate the picture and is used to depict most of the objects including the lotus, the dove and the Buddha himself. White signifies peace in almost all traditions and culture around the world. Hence, this may be taken as yet another marker of the general theme of the portrait. Like most portraits, the background has been done away with in order to construct a backdrop of pure green, which is also a dominant color.
