Balaji

Rs.11,700 Inc. Tax

This is a painting of Balaji, a form of Vishnu that is literally unrecognizable to many people in India, especially those who owe the origin of their believes and thoughts to the Vedic way of life. The first generic marker that helps one to place this image within its own chronotope is the color in which Balaji has been made up, which is essentially a darker shade of brown. This helps the beholder to identify the model as one that has originated from the elements of the Dravidian theology and ritualistic practices. On the backdrop of a façade, that has been constructed in the classical arching structure, thus moving away from the temple to construct spaces from the repertoire of mythology that has been associated with Balaji in this culture, the painting is extremely bright and colorful. It sees the use of a myriad of different colors such as green, orange, magenta, yellow, black, white and so on. Special attention has been paid to the attire, with his pleated helms and the flute. All of these ultimately help to place the portrait within its own niche and makes the portrait a work that conforms to the classical traditions which roots from the Dravidian system.
